Your preparation
0 of 0 safeguards readyMake the next decision with evidence
Understand the exact reserve or compliance issue, protect cash commitments, and provide Stripe with consistent evidence without disrupting valid customer payments.
Capture before evidence disappears
- Save dashboard notices, email, case IDs, balance and payout status, reserve, negative balance, disputes, refunds, verification requirements, and deadlines.
- Export charges, refunds, disputes, invoices, customers, subscriptions, transfers, payouts, bank details, and your internal ledger for the affected period.
- Prepare legal entity, ownership, identity, website, fulfillment, refund, terms, supplier, and customer-support evidence through the official upload route.
Decisions that change the response
| Question | Act when | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Keep accepting payments? | Charges still work and each additional sale can be fulfilled without the frozen cash. | Set a cash exposure limit; pause or cap sales if new obligations deepen insolvency risk. |
| Change bank or processor? | The requested change is legitimate and not an attempt to evade review. | Verify through trusted access. Do not create duplicate charges or conceal the account relationship. |
Proof that recovery worked
- Stripe case status, required information, reserve, payout schedule, and bank destination are documented from the dashboard.
- Stripe balances, payouts, fees, refunds, disputes, and internal ledger reconcile.
- The business can meet payroll, tax, refunds, vendors, and customer obligations through the forecast window.
Controls to put in place
- Reconcile Stripe to the ledger and bank routinely, and forecast cash separately from displayed revenue.
- Keep entity, owners, bank, website, terms, fulfillment, and support evidence current.
- Maintain an operating reserve and tested customer-payment degradation plan.
Freeze sandbox payout assumptions for 30 days. Reconcile the balance, build a cash forecast, cap risky sales, assemble a compliance packet, and draft customer and vendor communications.
Use authenticated Stripe support and finance or legal advisers when reserves, termination, identity, prohibited-business classification, fraud, or inability to meet obligations is involved.
What this means
A missing payout can be a bank delay, failed bank account, negative balance, verification request, risk review, or account restriction. Do not guess which one. The Stripe Dashboard, payout record, and account email should show the current status and required action.
The immediate business risk is cash flow. Protect payroll, taxes, refunds, and essential vendors while you resolve the account issue.
Warning signs
- A payout date keeps moving into the future.
- The Dashboard shows Restricted, Payouts paused, or Action required.
- Stripe requests identity, business, ownership, product, or bank documents.
- A payout is marked failed, canceled, or paid but never arrives.
- Your available balance grows while the bank balance does not.
Recover now
First 15 minutes
- Open Stripe directly from a trusted device. Do not follow an unexpected email link. Check the account status, Balances, Payouts, notifications, and verification requirements.
- Record the exact state. Save the payout ID, amount, currency, expected date, destination bank, failure code, Dashboard message, and requested documents.
- Check account security. Confirm the owners, bank account, support email, sessions, API keys, and 2FA methods. If anything changed unexpectedly, treat this as an account compromise.
- Open one Stripe support case. Include the account ID, payout IDs, dates, Dashboard message, and actions already completed. Keep all updates in the same case.
- Move to the cash plan. List cash currently available, money trapped in Stripe, and payments due during the next 14 days. Pause nonessential spending.
Today
- Complete legitimate verification requests with current, matching business documents.
- If the payout failed, confirm the bank account is open, supported, correctly entered, and able to receive the currency.
- If Stripe shows the payout as paid and five business days have passed, ask the bank to trace it using the payout trace details. Get written confirmation if the bank cannot find it.
- Resolve a negative balance or pending withdrawal using the action shown in the Dashboard.
- Do not create another Stripe account to route around a restriction. It can complicate the review and split your records.
- Tell affected staff or vendors when cash timing changes. Do not promise a payout date Stripe has not confirmed.
Verify recovery
- The Dashboard shows payouts enabled and no past-due requirement.
- A new payout has an expected arrival date and reaches the correct bank account.
- The destination bank details and account owners are correct.
- Old or unknown sessions, users, API keys, and 2FA methods are removed.
- The 14-day cash plan covers essential obligations.
Prepare now
Cash and access
- Keep enough money outside Stripe to cover at least one normal payout delay.
- At least two trusted people can access the Stripe account without sharing a login.
- Owners use strong 2FA and store recovery methods outside the business email account.
- Bank, business, tax, owner, website, and product details in Stripe are current.
Monitoring
- Someone checks Stripe notifications and payout status every business day.
- Verification and support emails go to a monitored business address.
- A cash forecast shows payroll, taxes, refunds, and essential vendors for the next 30 days.
- The business records payout IDs and reconciles Stripe against the bank.
Practice
- A second person can find account requirements, open a support case, trace a payout, and activate the cash plan.
Common mistakes
- Waiting without reading the Dashboard. Moving payout dates often point to an unfinished verification requirement.
- Sending documents through unofficial channels. Upload sensitive documents only through Stripe’s authenticated flow.
- Changing bank details repeatedly. Changes do not reroute a payout already in transit.
- Treating the Stripe balance as bank cash. It is not available until it reaches your account.
- Opening duplicate support cases. One complete timeline is easier to investigate.
